The Shuffleboard Club is now in recess until Nov.1st, 2011. We have had a successful and fun Season. We close with 52 paid members, hoping everyone will return in the Fall and that new people will join us for fun, competition and fellowship. Everyone that has an interest in Shuffleboard is welcome. You will find us waiting and wanting to be your friend. So, if you are new or old to the Park, and you are looking for a friend and need something to do with your time, Shuffleboard is the place to go. We will look forward to introducing you to the game, teaching you the rules, loaning you a cue and inviting you to all our fun activities. We have a little golf tournament, with an after-party at a different patio, a couple of times a month. This helps us to get better acquainted and add even a little more fun.Although our Club has recessed, it does not mean that we will not be shuffling. We will, shuffle as long as we have people interested and the weather is not too hot for the wax.
There will be some evening games. This play will be without League competition. Just fun for those remaining here, so "come on down" and see what it is all about.
Our Award Banquet was quite a success. Trophies awarded for our best players, games, entertainment, and a wonderful steak dinner was enjoyed by all who attended. Ken Bell was our head chef for the BBQ, with Art Roberts and Dan Roesche helping to make them just perfect. All club members’ volunteered help in all the activities going on to once again make our "Wind-up" the best ever. Thanks to everyone for all your help.
Wishing all our friends that leave us, a great summer. Have fun, stay healthy and we will look forward to hearing from you while you are away, and to seeing you when you return.

March 2011
Here it is, March again. It seems like we just started the Season of Shuffleboard and it is almost over. Time really flies when you are having fun. And we have had a lot of fun. We have had many new Shufflers join us. They have been playing in our tournaments with other clubs in the area and some have been winners. We expect a lot of winners next year.No winners to report in the District Any Doubles, but I certainly can report that the tournament was attended by eighteen of our players and was enjoyed by each and every one of them.
The Tournament of Champions is March 1-3. This is by invitation only and we have 7 ladies and 2 men that are eligible to play this year. These are people that have won in a major District Tournament.
The Desert League annual wind-up party was hosted by Royal Palms this year. We enjoyed a crazy Turkey Shoot, games and a great lunch. All clubs take part and one of the fun things was an auction of gifts, using "funny money".
Our installation of new officers for the coming year will take place when we have our awards banquet on the 27th of March. Also, awards will be given to our Club Champions for both the Singles and Doubles winners right here at our own Club. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a place to display our trophies? Maybe in the lounge or in the lobby?
I also wish to thank Rudy Sund for re-painting our Shuffleboard Sign. It was very much in need of a face lift. The sign was first made by some of our own Shuffleboard members.
Thank you, Rudy, for seeing the need and taking care of it for us.
For all of you that will be gone before another article comes out, we wish you a great summer. Take care and come back again next fall. We will miss all of you and look forward to your safe and healthy return.
February 2011
Welcome back to all our Shufflers that return in January. It is so nice to see you again.January was quite a busy month with play days, League play, and Tournaments. The Bonspiel was played at Safari, The District Challenge with Dist. #7 at Royal Palms. Our biggest event, The Rookie Tournament, is played each year at Ramon Park. We entered nine brand new Rookies. Lunch is their big thing. They bring out their grills and cook hamburgers outside with grilled onions. It makes me hungry just to think about it.
The Any Doubles for our District starts February 1st through the 4th. You may choose your own partner and decide who will play head and who will play the foot ends. This choice remains for the entire tournament. We hope to have a winning team or two, which I will report in the next issue. Also, we will be playing for our own club championships, both singles and doubles, this month. The ―Wind-up‖ party for District Desert Shufflers will be held at Palm Desert Park on February 26th. Be sure to sign up. This is truly a very fun event.
We were invited to participate in the Senior Games, but due to the dates conflicting with the Doubles Tournament, we declined. May be something to think about for next year.
We always invite anyone interested in Shuffling to please come and play with us every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at 9:45 A.M. Our Club will lend you a cue and help you with basic instruction. Come and see what it is all about.

Our prestigious PRESIDENT’s CUP (match play) probably is full, but check in anyway as we are trying to fill a fourth bracket and need 16 players. KEN CIACCIO would have won $100 for the Attendance Prize at last month’s meeting, but was somewhere else. Prize jumps up now to $125. And, BOB MONZINGO became the lucky winner of two round trip tickets to the club’s PRE-DERBY DAY PARTY at SANTA ANITA on March 11th. Attend this months meeting to find out what is going on and how you too can get your share of BONKY BUCKS, free tickets to Santa Anita and a barrel full of more surprises!
