One Hundred members were present at the March 8th meeting. Milt Nelson‘s name was drawn for the $10.00 attendance award but unfortunately Milt was not able to attend due to illness. Clyde Hudson won the $10.00 attendance award at the February meeting and the $10.00 raffle winners were Harland Wold, Dale McGowan, Frank Reynolds, Bob Vandewall and Nick Otte. 110 members were present. The following are members joining our club since January 1, 2011: Stewart Carder, Lorn Grieve, Herb Krause, Art Mortimore, Steve Padzik, Martin Parsons, Tom Douglas, Tim Treece and Richard Witham. Welcome guys!!! Our March meeting will be on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 since we will be in Parker, Arizona at Emerald Canyon on Tuesday, March 1st.

The President‘s Cup Tournament days will be played on Thursday, March 3, 2011 and Thursday, March 10, 2011 with the dinner dance and awards banquet on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 5:00 to 10:00 PM. Get your tickets from any board member at $20.00 per person. Menu: Steak, baked potatoes, baked beans, rolls and ice cream bars for dessert. A cash bar will be set up in the hall. Make sure you print your name on the back of your ticket and deposit it at the dance for door prizes.

Past President, Frank Reynolds swore in the 2011 officers at the January 4th meeting.
Mike Stauf won $80.00 just for being present and the $10.00 raffle winners were Jim Freeman, Heinz Best, Dick Knapp, Gordon Harvey and Ray Hill. 115 members were present. Bill Swedeen was elected by the board of directors to hold the office of treasurer filling the unexpired term due to the passing of Thomas Gail.

Dr. Ruth Anderson will be our guest speaker at the December meeting. The title of her presentation is “Simple steps to improve your life/ your golf game.”

Our annual Emerald Canyon @ Parker, Arizona will be Feb 28, and March 1 & 2. Entry forms are in the clubhouse and pro shop. As usual Ted Brower is doing a fantastic job putting the Tournament together.

In addition to our regular Thursday tournament play we are planning many special event golf tournaments for this season: Guys and Dolls, the first Friday of the month except November which will be November 12; Horse Races, November 26 and Feb 18; Beat The Pros, Dec 17 and April 15; Four Man-2 Best Ball, Jan 21; Bonnie & Clyde, March 9; Doc McGroady Tournament, March 25; and Tri-Palm vs. SSGC, date to be announced later. As you can see Frank Reynolds has planned enough special events to keep us very busy through the winter months, so mark your calendars, clean the cobwebs off your clubs and we will see you on the golf course.

Due to health reasons, Walt Wick has resigned as Membership Director, effective August 22, 2010. Your Board of Directors has elected Leo Gruenke to serve the remainder of this unexpired term. Our best wishes to Walt for a speedy recovery and we thank him for doing an excellent job for the past four years. Welcome Leo and thank you for accepting this im-portant position.

Our new computer hard-drive has been purchased and installed. It works exactly like the old one so you can continue to enter Thursday tournaments and post scores just as you have in the past. Computer instructions are on page 16, 17 and 18 in your member’s manual if you need to refresh your memory. Sign-ups for Men’s Day Tournaments on the computer is be-tween 6:00am Thursday and 12:00 noon the following Tuesday. Foursomes are preferred and please, try to use just two carts. Stay on the cart paths as much as possible and if it’s necessary to drive up to the greens, please stay at least 30 feet away from the edges of the greens. Let’s fix ball marks and divots too.

This summer’s hole-in-one pot started June 1st and ended September 30th with no one lucky enough to have aced. This pot is separate from the normal hole-in-one pot and will be held, carried over and added to next summer’s pot. Ken Van Brocklin will continue to handle the Par-3 hole-in one pot & Par-3 KP’s as always when the Century course opens.

Keith Treece, Phil Nelson and Ken Van Brocklin have been appointed as the nominating committee to propose our board of directors. At least two weeks prior to the regular November meeting, this committee will submit and post a list of proposed directors. Nomi-nations from the floor may be made at the regular November meeting. The first order of business at the regular December meeting shall be the balloting for 2011 directors.

In addition to our regular Thursday tournament play we are planning many special event golf tournaments for this season: The President’s Cup; Guys and Dolls; Horse Races; Beat The Pros; Four Man-2 Best Ball; Emerald Canyon @ Parker, Arizona; Bonnie & Clyde and Tri-Palm VS SSGC. As soon as details covering all these events are finalized they will be posted, published in the Spectrum and be E-mailed to all our members that have given Leo Gruenke their E-Mail address.

The April 6th meeting was attended by over 76 members. Errol Patton missed out on the $30.00 attendance award since he was not present so it goes to $40.00 at our last meeting of the season on May 4th. The $10.00 coupon drawings went to Neal Mattson, Frank Reynolds, Bill Frederick, Gale Schoelerman and Ken Johnson. Two more gentlemen joined our club which brings our membership to 290. We extend a sincere welcome to Skip Johnson and David Nelson. Our E-Mail data base is growing. If you have not given your E-Mail address to us yet please E-Mail it to Leo Gruenke at tripalms@gmail.com Frank Reynolds, our Special Events Director reports the following; The Tri-Palm “Horse Race”, run on March 26th results are as follows: Win - Jay Kang & Mike Harai, $60.00 each Place - Al Stambaugh & Tom Birkland, $25.00 each Show - Ted Specchio & Oly Manderscheid, $15.00 each Twenty teams entered the race. Jay and Mike made no mistakes and were decisive winners. This is the 2nd year in a row that Al and Tom came in second. So, Get your horse in shape for next season at which time there will be at least two more races. The “Doc McGroarty Invitational” RESULTS; Tri-Palms VS SSGC on April 2, 2010 What an exciting tournament: Thirty-four matches. Frank Reynolds and John Bonk organized this event and it turned out to be as exciting as anyone could anticipate. It was match play and all eyes were on the low handicappers, Ken Hinves, a 7 playing for Tri-Palms against Jay Kang, an 8 playing for SSGC. In the end, Ken prevailed. Overall, Tri-Palm men took the early lead but SSGC came roaring back. With six (6) matches left to report and SSGC leading by five (5), Tri-Palm surprisingly won the next five. The last match came in and was reported as a tie between Tri-Palm’s Bob Barbon and SSGC Frank Schrott. WOW, after 34 matches a tie!!! But wait; After John Bonk checked the last score card, it was discovered that Barbon had not tied, he won!!! Tri-Palm Men’s Club was in fact winner of the first Doc McGroarty Invitational. Congratulations Guys!! No prize money was awarded to the winners, they received something much more important; BRAGGING RIGHTS. One half of the KP money collected was given to Doc McGroarty and $110.00 was presented to the Tri-Palm Men’s Club to be used for repairs to the Caddy-Shack. “Guys & Dolls” Teed-Off at 8:00 AM on Friday, April 9th Frank Reynolds & Harry Wareham combined efforts with a great committee and sent out 132 eager golfers to enjoy a wonderful day of golf on the Millennium and Century course with award presentations, jokes and dinner following in the main club house. Richard Garner and Jerry Taylor, partners in “Garner & Sons Acoustics” of Arcadia Ca donated and installed the new drop ceiling tiles. Mr. Garner & Mr. Taylor are members of SSGC and we thank them very much for their generosity. We will be painting the interior next. Starting Thursday, May 6, 2010 and until further notice, men’s day tournament play will be mornings only. Next meeting is Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 10:00 AM (last one until October).
